Warner Bros. posted the official trailer for Digger, Alejandro G. Iñárritu’s comedy with Tom Cruise. Watch the oil-baron meltdown first. Then the production and release facts the clip does not explain.
What the trailer shows
Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a thick-accent Southern oil tycoon with combed-over hair and a gut. The pitch is catastrophic comedy: his company helps trigger an ecological disaster, then he tries to prove he can save the world before everything burns.
John Goodman shows up as a sleepy, scrambled U.S. president. The tone is loud, absurd, and mean about powerful people making a mess worse while pretending they are the fix.
What the trailer does not tell you
Iñárritu wrote and directed it. The screenplay is by Alejandro G. Iñárritu with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolás Giacobone, and Sabina Berman. That is the Birdman writing crew on a studio comedy about climate panic and ego. Cruise also produces.
It was shot in VistaVision for theaters and IMAX. Warner is selling presentation hard. The movie was filmed entirely in VistaVision with cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, and it is dated for theaters and IMAX in North America. This is not a quiet prestige dump.
The cast around Cruise is stacked. Beyond Goodman, the ensemble includes Riz Ahmed, Emma D’Arcy, Robert John Burke, and more. The trailer keeps the focus on Cruise’s transformation, but the movie is built as a group catastrophe, not a one-man stunt reel.
When to see it
Digger opens in North American theaters October 2, 2026, with international dates beginning September 30, 2026. Warner Bros. and Legendary are behind it.
