Creator WolfheartFPS spent hours treating those engravings as Elder Futhark, the oldest widely cited runic alphabet, and landed on a phonetic string that reads like English once you say it out loud: chaos is coming.
That is a fan decipher, not a Larian press release. Treat it as a strong lead, then decide how much lore weight you want to hang on a crown.
The BTS pass that made the crown readable
Unit Image, the VFX house that co-built the cinematic with Larian, posted a LinkedIn making-of late July that shows SCAN ENGINE photogrammetry, mocap, and model close-ups the finished trailer softens.
From the very beginning, the goal was to craft a cinematic that embraced mystery, discomfort, and emotion while pushing the boundaries of what an announcement trailer could be.
That is Unit Image's own framing of the job. The side effect for lore hunters: props that were texture noise at 1080p become inspectable assets in the BTS cut.
What WolfheartFPS thinks the runes say
In his deep dive, WolfheartFPS maps the crown marks to Elder Futhark (and some historical variants), then phonetically groups them as something like "kay oss iz kum ing." His plain-English read: chaos is coming.
Elder Futhark is not a clean English cipher. Different scholars and variant charts will argue letter choices. The useful standard here is honesty: this is a careful fan translation of a prop inscription, not a datamined script file with a developer comment attached.
