If you are waiting on the modern Jumanji trilogy's closing chapter, the wait just got a trailer with a concrete date. Sony Pictures Entertainment posted the official 4K look at Jumanji: Open World, and the pitch is the opposite of the last two movies. The jungle is not the destination this time. The game is dumping into our side of the screen.

What the clip actually shows
The footage opens on winter streets and wildlife that does not belong there. Ostriches stampede past Nora's, the familiar diner from the reboot films, while holiday lights try to pretend this is still a normal Christmas town. Then the avatars show up in the real world looking like unfinished saves: Dr. Smolder Bravestone, Ruby Roundhouse, Franklin "Mouse" Finbar, and Professor Sheldon "Shelly" Oberon, sitting in booths, arguing in cars, and treating pavement like a level select.
Spencer Gilpin's crew names the glitch out loud. The video-game characters are stuck in demo mode, which is why Bravestone's cadence feels off and why the group keeps behaving like incomplete player characters who wandered into New Hampshire instead of a jungle map. Jack Black's Shelly gets the trailer line that sells the joke:
I'm beginning to suspect that we're not in Jumanji.
That is the thesis. The last two films trapped teens inside the cartridge. Open World flips the board so the cartridge leaks into Christmas break.
