Official patch notes frame the mode as a tower defense story beat, not a ranked queue swap:
The world has once again fallen into crisis! Ultron's legion surges into Avengers Tower like a tidal wave. The tower that once protected the world now blares with alarms, teetering on the edge of collapse. The Avengers assemble once more, swearing to fend off Ultron's invasion to the bitter end!
The official trailer adds the hook that Ultron infects F.R.I.D.A.Y., with story cinematics and movie-inspired dialogue. This sits inside the broader Path to Doomsday campaign that started earlier with Avengers-movie themed content and is meant to run toward Avengers: Doomsday.
Platform note that matters: the patch explicitly says the mode is not available on PS4 right now. PS5, Xbox Series, and PC players can jump in after the client update.
