The next mainline chapter has a name. Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves are the new dual versions from GAME FREAK, exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2, with a simultaneous worldwide release in 2027. The Pokémon Company dropped the first-look announcement trailer during Pokémon Presents on Pokémon Day. Watch it, then the facts the clip stacks underneath.

Platform: Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive, not a Switch 1 dual ship
Window: global simultaneous release in 2027 (month still TBA)
Setting: open-world islands and ocean, windswept land and glittering waves, ecosystems built around that nature focus
Versions: outfit differences for the player depending on Winds vs Waves
Language: Brazilian Portuguese joins as an official selectable language starting with these games
The starters
Classic three-way pick, new faces:
Browt (Grass): Bean Chick Pokémon. Lively, a little clumsy. Overgrow energy.
Pombon (Fire): Puppy Pokémon. Friendly fire Pomeranian vibes. Blaze.
Gecqua (Water): Water Gecko Pokémon. The smart pick for Torrent fans.
The trailer also leans on special Pikachu presentation (including the Windychu / Wavychu flavor the Presents stacked on) and a scrapbook tour through older regions before the camera opens on the new coastline. Anniversary framing, then new hardware.
Why this matters
This is Generation 10’s front door and the first mainline pair built as a Switch 2 exclusive. After the open-world experiments of recent games, Game Freak is selling islands, ocean depth, and “forces of nature” as obstacles, not just scenery. Exact month, gym structure, and legendary pair stay sealed. For now the homework is the trailer, the official Winds and Waves hub, and marking 2027 on the Switch 2 shelf.
