*Ubisoft is killing Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles on October 30, 2026.* That is about two years after the October 23, 2024 worldwide launch, and only months after the studio already started ripping the blockchain guts out of its own Web3 experiment.
If you never touched it, the short version is a 3v3 turn-based PvP tactics RPG set in Grimoria where the “collectible Champions” began life as NFTs on Oasys. The long version is a case study in how fast a major publisher can run the NFT playbook, then reverse course, then pull the plug.
The shutdown, in Ubisoft’s words
Ubisoft’s player-facing sunset note lays out the calendar without soft language:
Today, we’re sharing an important update regarding the future of Champions Tactics. After careful consideration, we have made the decision to sunset the game. The Champions Tactics servers will officially shut down on October 30. Until then, the game will remain fully playable, and our goal is to ensure that players can continue to enjoy the experience during these final months. As part of this transition, in-app purchases will be disabled on all platforms.
So: servers die October 30. You can keep playing until then. You cannot keep spending.
Official trailer from the Champions Tactics channel:

Timeline: mint, pivot, sunset
| Date | What happened |
|---|---|
| Oct. 23, 2024 | Worldwide launch ([official FAQ](https://championstactics.ubisoft.com/faq)) |
| May 2026 | Ubisoft begins exiting Web3: “progressively transition away from blockchain functionality” after Oasys infrastructure changes ([site notice](https://championstactics.ubisoft.com/)) |
| May 27, 2026 (planned step) | Wallet freeze / inventory snapshot; Forge and Marketplace close |
| May 19, 2026 window | *Champions Tactics Reforged* lands on Steam as a non-NFT free-to-play path |
| Oct. 30, 2026 | Full server shutdown |
The May site copy is the quieter confession. Ubisoft did not rebrand NFTs as a success. It blamed supporting chain infrastructure, then tried to keep a playable shell alive long enough for players to manage assets and, later, simply say goodbye.

What the game actually was
Per Ubisoft’s own FAQ, Champions Tactics is a competitive multiplayer turn-based RPG: draft three Champions, outmaneuver the other squad, climb ranks. Launch inventory math was pure Web3 era: 75,000 Champions free to mint in July 2024, Forge crafting paid in Gold or $OAS, marketplace royalties (Sequence fee plus Ubisoft cut), VIP tiers gated on how many Champions you owned, and Ethereal non-NFT rentals for people who refused to buy in.
That design made the product radioactive to a big slice of Steam and Ubisoft Connect audiences before the first ranked match loaded. When Reforged tried the same tactics loop without the chain, it still never became a mainstream tactics destination. The sunset is the final accounting entry.

What to do if you still have an account
Treat October 30 as a hard stop, not a soft maintenance window.
Spend remaining Gold / finish seasonal goals before IAPs and servers both go dark.
Screenshot inventories and VIP state if you care about records. The wallet freeze snapshot from May was for the Web3 exit, not a promise of post-shutdown access.
Do not expect a Miracle offline patch. Ubisoft’s language is sunset, not “we’re shipping a legacy build.”
Ubisoft’s big 2026 conversation is elsewhere (the Assassin’s Creed remake wave, live-service cleanups, cost discipline). Champions Tactics is the smaller line item that still matters as a marker: the NFT era did not leave Ubisoft with a durable tactics franchise. It left a Grimoria server with a death date.
Follow the gaming feed and the Champions Tactics hub if Ubisoft posts a final FAQ addendum before October 30.
