Wile E. Coyote is done blowing himself up in silence. The final trailer for Coyote vs. Acme is out: a live-action / Looney Tunes hybrid where the desert predator hires a billboard lawyer and sues the company that sold him every rocket, anvil, and fake tunnel that failed. U.S. theaters open August 28, 2026. Comic-Con just got the first public screening. Watch first.
What the trailer shows
The hook is pure cartoon logic turned into a lawsuit. After decades of Acme products exploding in his face, Wile E. answers an ad for attorney Kevin Avery (Will Forte) and paralegal Paige (Lana Condor). Across the aisle sits Acme’s defense hammer Buddy Crane (John Cena), plus corporate Looney muscle and the usual Tunes cameos. Slapstick evidence reel meets courtroom swagger.
If you know the shorts, you already know the gag stack: faulty gadgets, Road Runner escapes, Coyote flattened against the desert. The trailer sells that archive as Exhibit A, then asks whether a human legal system can keep up with cartoon physics.
How this movie even exists
Coyote vs. Acme comes from Ian Frazier’s classic New Yorker piece imagining Coyote’s lawsuit against Acme. Dave Green directed. Samy Burch wrote the screenplay from a story by Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater. Gunn and Chris DeFaria produce. Cast also includes Tone Bell, Martha Kelly, and Luis Guzmán around the live-action core.
The production finished under Warner Bros., then got shelved in 2023 as a tax write-off play. Public backlash forced the studio to let the filmmakers shop it. Ketchup Entertainment bought the film and put it back on a theatrical calendar. That rescue is why a finished Looney Tunes comedy is finally getting a trailer week in 2026 instead of a vault.
Where it is now
Tickets are on sale. The UK and Ireland open a week earlier on August 21. The Comic-Con screening is the victory lap for a movie that almost never played a room. The final trailer is the sell: Forte’s nervous lawyer energy, Condor holding the case together, Cena as corporate muscle in a bolo tie, and Coyote finally pointing the anvil at the company that forged it.
