Far Cry Kodiak and Maverick: what Ubisoft has actually confirmed

Ubisoft says two Far Cry projects are in development under Vantage Studios. Here is what is confirmed about Kodiak and Maverick, and what is still rumor.

Far Cry Kodiak and Maverick: what Ubisoft has actually confirmed

Far Cry fans tracking Ubisoft's next shooter need a clean split between what the company has said out loud and what is still unannounced pipeline chatter. This is a status checklist for Kodiak, Maverick, and the broader Far Cry slate under Vantage Studios.

What Ubisoft has confirmed

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said Far Cry remains an active priority under Vantage Studios, the creative house now steering Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six, and Far Cry. In early 2026 he put a number on the pipeline:

On Far Cry, anticipation is high, and we currently have two very promising projects in development.

That is the hard floor. Two Far Cry projects are in development. Guillemot did not name them, did not share release windows, and did not describe genres beyond calling the projects promising.

Company materials still treat Far Cry as a core growth IP. Ubisoft's FY2024-25 earnings update put Far Cry at roughly 20 million unique active players per year in recent cycles, alongside Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six as franchise pillars. That is community scale, not a ship date.

Kodiak and Maverick: reported, not announced

Internal codenames have circulated for years. Treat every line below as unconfirmed by Ubisoft until the studio puts a logo on a stage:

  • Maverick: long reported as a Far Cry extraction / multiplayer survival shooter (often linked to an Alaskan wilderness pitch). Recent industry reporting says the extraction concept was canceled or shelved.

  • Kodiak: reported as a new open-world FPS spin-off that passed concept and entered development at Vantage Studios, with player-driven stories as the focus, and some technical foundations reused from Maverick.

  • Blackbird: widely described as the next mainline Far Cry entry, further along than the spin-off track, with co-op still expected in the franchise mold.

Ubisoft has not publicly confirmed those names, the Maverick cancellation, the Kodiak reboot framing, or any Alaska setting. Until an official trailer or blog post lands, treat Kodiak / Maverick / Blackbird as working labels from the rumor mill, not store-page products.

Confirmed vs not confirmed

Confirmed

  • Two Far Cry projects are in development (Yves Guillemot).

  • Far Cry sits under Vantage Studios with Assassin's Creed and Rainbow Six.

  • Far Cry still posts large yearly unique-player figures in Ubisoft's financial updates.

  • The last mainline release players can buy today is Far Cry 6 (2021), plus expansions and spin-offs already shipped.

Not confirmed

  • Official use of the names Kodiak, Maverick, or Blackbird.

  • An official cancellation notice for any Far Cry extraction shooter.

  • Platforms, settings, single-player vs multiplayer split, or release years for either active project.

  • Whether Guillemot's "two projects" map one-to-one onto the rumored Blackbird + Kodiak pair.

Where to play while you wait

If you want Far Cry chaos before the next reveal, start with Far Cry 6 on console or PC, or revisit Far Cry 5 / New Dawn. Official Ubisoft Forward-era marketing for Far Cry 6 still shows the tone Ubisoft sells when it is ready to talk:
