Disney courting Culkin for Home Alone: what is actually confirmed

Matt Belloni says Disney is courting Macaulay Culkin after a lot sighting. Here is Culkin's dad-Kevin pitch versus what is still unconfirmed.

Disney courting Culkin for Home Alone: what is actually confirmed

Home Alone fans tracking a real Kevin McCallister return finally have a status update that is more than anniversary-tour nostalgia. Reporter Matt Belloni said on The Town that Macaulay Culkin was recently spotted on the Disney lot, and that the studio is aggressively courting him for a new Home Alone movie.

What Belloni reported

Belloni's tip is a lot sighting plus studio heat, not a signed deal. He said Disney is "salivating" over Culkin returning to the franchise he left more than three decades ago, and that the company is sweetening talks with a classic studio trade: another movie Culkin wants to make (a passion project) if he also does Home Alone.

I've talked to people who have heard it, and it's a really good idea for a Home Alone reboot with Macaulay Culkin. If that happens and they restart the Home Alone franchise, that would be gigantic for the next 10 years.

Belloni framed Home Alone as a perennial streaming holiday performer, which is why the studio would push hard. He also cautioned it may not close. Treat this as active courtship, not a greenlight.

Culkin's own pitch: dad Kevin, traps flipped

Culkin has already floated the story engine he would actually show up for. On his "A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin" tour, he said he "wouldn't be completely allergic" to returning if the movie felt right, then sketched adult Kevin as a single father (widower or divorcee) who is stretched thin, locked out by his resentful kid, and stuck on the wrong side of the booby traps.

The house is some sort of metaphor for our relationship. Get let back into [his] son's heart kind of deal. That's the closest elevator pitch that I have.

That pitch is the clearest creative north star attached to these talks. It keeps the practical-gag DNA while flipping who holds the house, which is why fans keep calling it the "perfect" reboot shape. None of that is the same as Disney approving that script, hiring a writer, or locking a director.

Confirmed vs not confirmed

Reported / attributed

  • Culkin sighted on the Disney lot (per Belloni on The Town)

  • Studio actively courting him, including a passion-project sweetener

  • People Belloni spoke to like the reboot idea attached to Culkin

Confirmed from Culkin himself (earlier)

  • Open to a return if the project is right

  • Elevator pitch: adult single-dad Kevin locked out while his son sets the traps

Not confirmed

  • A closed Disney deal, start date, writer, or director

  • Wet Bandits or other legacy cast returning

  • A holiday 2027 release (Disney's late-2027 tentpoles already look crowded; any theatrical window is speculation)

What to watch next

Until Disney or Culkin confirms a deal, the useful checkpoint is whether a writer is attached to Culkin's father-son house metaphor. Follow the Home Alone hub for updates when paperwork, not podcast tips, moves.
